Since my professional focus is functional bowls, that’s what I mostly teach. I’m a regular instructor at Chimera Arts in Sebastopol, CA, but can also teach in my own shop or yours by arrangement. If there are other aspects of turning besides bowl work that you’d like to learn, contact me and we can discuss whether I’m the right teacher for you. A newer venture for me is demonstrating and teaching at crafts schools and events around the country, so if you’re interested in hiring me for an event, let’s talk.
For new turners, my primary teaching focus is on safe, effective, efficient cutting. Learning how to use a turning gouge correctly will give you the ability to make a wide range of items on the lathe, so my beginning classes are about learning skills rather than producing a product. If you’re an intermediate or advanced turner, we can work on expanding or improving your cutting skills, sharpening, more advanced projects like bowls with feet or handles, design, stock preparation, or embellishment techniques such as carving, paint or pyrography.
